All About Brazilian Wax | Right Time To Get Your Wax Done

Hey gorgeous! Whether you’re getting ready for your first bikini or Brazilian wax, or are looking for tips and tricks to make your next bikini wax as luxurious of an experience as possible, we’ve got you covered!

First of all What is Brazilian Wax ?

Most of us are more familiar with the concept of a bikini wax. It’s when an esthetician uses hot wax to get rid of the hair that would be visible if one were to wear a bikini bottom. The Brazilian is basically the same deal—just removing more hair.A Brazilian includes the strands along the vagina lips and in your behind. You can opt to leave a triangle or landing strip of hair on top. Or, you can go fully bare. Introduced back in 1987 by a group of Brazilian sisters (yes, really) the Brazilian has remained the most popular hair removal method in the U.S. today.

I know what you’re thinking.

Is there even a right time to get a Brazilian wax? As it turns out, there is!

I can’t take away the gut-wrenching pain that comes with every pull but I can help you reduce it. If you’ve just started waxing down there or have added a bikini wax to your usual to-do list at the salon, this one’s for you.

1. Check Your Hair Down There

Brazilian wax

There’s a thin line between going too soon and very early and I’m guessing that line is made of hair. Sorry, bad joke. If your hair is too short, the wax won’t pick it up and if the hair is too dense, well, then, so will be the pain. Hairs should be about 1/4 inches long.A big mistake many women make before getting their first wax: shaving. Wax can’t pick up your hairs when they’re too short

Most aestheticians recommend that your hair should at least be 1/4 inch if you’re headed to the salon. Everybody’s hair growth differs but you should definitely go if you can’t see your skin anymore.

2. When Is Your Next Period?

Turns out a Brazilian wax will only hurt more (ouch!) if you get one just before or after your period. You should check your period app (POPxo has a period tracker too) and avoid getting a wax for those 8 days.

3. Are You Waxing For A Special Night?

A lot of us women (and many brides) make this mistake. If sex is on the agenda, don’t get waxed the same day. You will be sensitive after the wax and all that rubbing down there is going to make you very uncomfortable. Try to do it at least two days before making merry and you will be just fine.

4. There’s A Right Time To Pop The Painkiller

Now that you actually have a window of when to schedule a Brazilian, it’s imperative you pop a painkiller. Take it too early and it won’t help you, so pop it 20-30 minutes before you get on the waxing table. Feel free to use a cold compress after it’s done.

5. Hydrocortisone cream can soothe your skin.

According to us, the fastest way to calm post-waxing irritation is to apply a hydrocortisone cream. It calms inflammation, quells itchiness and reduces redness.

6. Let your skin heal before you hit the beach.

If you’re hoping to be bikini-ready by the end of your appointment, not so fast. Your skin deserves a breather after everything it just went through. And since you just gave your bikini line a refresh, you might as well do the same with your bathing suit right?

Well, hopefully, your next appointment isn’t as bad!
